Banksy (unknown title and lifespan) 2016
Historically speaking, I think this piece discusses how social status plays out in modern times. Social status is largely based off of an individuals’ online presence and in a time where social media dominates the communication world, it is hard to escape the effort of putting yourself online. I think this piece speaks to the many people that struggle to stand out not only online but in the real world as well. I think it is a humorous yet accurate depiction of how being ignored through any social situation makes one feel inferior and useless. But in the historical context of this piece, it is representing how iconic symbols of modern times define one’s social status due to the fact that everyone is online.
What do you think this piece is saying about modern communication?

I think this piece is saying that in modern social media, people don’t want to see the bad sides of life. People only want to see that perfect, happy child, and ignore people who are less than happy on social media.

I think we have forgotten how to communicate effectively with other people face to face. We are so accustomed to communicating in such a bastardized way where we beg for “likes” for everything we do. Once we are back in the real world we have to struggle again to be noticed. We feel more insignificant because we are less inclined to reach out towards a stranger when it is personal.

I think this piece means that the new technology won’t experience what its like to go out and do after school activities. But be isolated by technology, the new technology is imprisoning the future and which creates the tech to be a dependency or a friend.
